Frequently Asked Questions
Essentially, the key difference between work position and fall arrest is that work restraint is a technique developed to restrict the operative from approaching an area with a leading edge and a potential fall. Fall arrest is primarily designed to give the operative freedom of movement around leading edges, and should a fall occur, it will arrest the fall and prevent an individual from hitting the ground/surface. There will be different equipment requirements and differing levels of training needed.
As long as a harness meets the relevant safety regulations (EU)2016/425 and is manufactured to applicable standards such as EN 361 and approved by local UKCA bodies, they will all protect an individual should a fall occur.
