All operatives whose duties are to include manual handling of tools, articles and materials. The course translates across all age groups and forms part of the employers Health & Safety statutory requirement.

Aims & Objectives
This guidance gives useful practical advice for employers, managers, safety representatives and individual employees on how to reduce the risk of injury from manual handling.
Attendees should complete the service with an understanding of the necessary control measures required for safe working environment and the options available to avoid the need for exposure to sharps and needle stick injury.
Managers, supervisors and operatives will be able to assess whether they are using current safe working practices and employing the best and correct use of PPE associated with the relevant task that they undertake.

Content
- Review of current legislation.
- Review of current codes of practice.
- Injuries – awareness for sharps and needle sticks.
- Procedure for reporting and dealing with sharps or needle stick injury.
- Likely locations of sharps and needle stick exposure.
- Possible health implications of needle stick injury.
- Short theory test and optional practical.​
Achievement
A MTST certificate of training sharps & needle stick awareness.
