Aimed At?
Operatives that are required to use ladders that are restrained to the building with the ability to use a harness and restraint system to work from the ladder utilising 2 hands and maintain the 3 points of contact required. ​
Course
Aims & Objectives
- To provide information, instruction, and training on the hazards and risks of using ladders at work, specifically in restraint with the associated PPE.
- To provide the understanding and ability to apply control measures, including using and selecting PPE for fall protection and prevention.
- Provide information on the current standards and UK legislation.
- To provide information, instruction and training on the correct access, work position, and egress procedures when using ladders with the fall restraint fall arrest PPE.​
Course
Content
This training course covers the basic understanding and use of ladders, plus Ladder Training Levels 1-3 when using fall restraint and fall arrest PPE:
- Basic ladder training – ladder access and egress.
- Ladder Training Level 1 – the user must wear a harness with a fall restraint lanyard and their general PPE.
- Ladder Training Level 2: The employee is required to climb ladders when using a fall arrest system that allows two hands to be free while accessing the ladder and carrying equipment.
- Ladder training Level 3 – Pitched roof access from a connected ladder using the rope and restraint techniques
- Legislation and regulation
- BS/EN standards for ladders and harnesses

- Inspection principles and safe use of ladders and harnesses
- Ladder restraint kit introduction
